The FonteVita bottle, designed by PET Engineering, is a testament to the power of design in transforming perceptions. The idea behind the packaging was to lend premium value to a low-cost material through a sophisticated design that mimics the look of glass. The result is a packaging solution that combines the advantages of PET - unbreakability, lightweight, and low cost - with elegance, character, and refined simplicity.
FonteVita is not just a bottle, but a statement in the world of packaging. Weighing only 39 grams, the bottle's shape brings to mind a flower slowly blossoming, while the blue shade represents the water that helps the flower grow, and at the same time, is the product contained in the bottle itself. The bottle's design is further enhanced by a new type of decoration, made possible by the innovative use of multilayer technology, and LuxCap, the first premium cap for pco 1881 cap, which is entirely customizable in colors, finishing, and printings.
The creation of the FonteVita bottle involved the use of multilayer technology to create a shade effect. This technology, usually used for protecting sensitive products like milk and juices, was used in cooperation with Husky Injection Moulding System to put colors in the mid-layer. This resulted in a shade that goes from the bottom to the top, eliminating the need for an expensive total body sleeve and the machine to apply it. The overcap, developed with LaBrenta, is assembled using NGS technology, meaning that no glue is used. The overcap is designed to fit perfectly over standard caps, interlocking with the ridges on the standard cap's surface for total grip.
The FonteVita project started in Treviso at the beginning of 2017 and went through various stages of prototyping and testing in Luxembourg and Treviso. The main challenge faced by the design team was the increasing demand among bottling companies for packaging solutions that not only serve a functional purpose but also express their brand’s market positioning and core values. This is particularly the case in the beverage industry, where water is often treated like a commodity. The solution was the Luxo PET Line, which imitates the deluxe appearance of glass yet offers a range of added advantages.
FonteVita is not just a design marvel but also a winner of the prestigious Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2018. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, the FonteVita bottle by PET Engineering is a shining example of how design and innovation can transform a simple, low-cost material into a premium product. It is a testament to the power of design in shaping perceptions and adding value to a product. The success of the FonteVita bottle serves as an inspiration for designers and brands to push the boundaries of what is possible with design and innovation.
